RUSH: I WON’T MISS THE BUS

IAN RUSH would love nothing better than to hand the Premier League trophy to his beloved Liverpool – after being master of ceremonies at their Champions League triumph in Madrid.

The Anfield legend insists it’s game-on for Jurgen Klopp’s side to end an agonising 30-year wait to land the title. Rush, in his promotiona­l role with UEFA, helped former Tottenham star Ledley King carry the giant piece of European silverware on to the pitch before the final last weekend.

He was then asked to bring it to the winners’ stage after Liverpool made it six wins in the continent’s elite competitio­n.

Now, he would love to be placed on standby for any

League celebratio­ns to come – although, he revealed, hopefully without the mishaps which struck en route to Atletico Madrid’s Wando Metropolit­an Stadium.

He said: “It’s certainly game-on for Liverpool for the title next season. Going 30 years without winning it is way too long.

“I’m certain they are believing now, as we saw in the magnificen­t turn-out for the Champions League victory parade in the city last week. The Premier League is the big one for the club. If Liverpool had ended the season with nothing, it would have been a massive blow to everyone connected with the club.”

Rush almost didn’t make it to the Champions League kick-off, along with Liverpool owner John W Henry and a host of club VIPs.
