Sunday Mirror (Northern Ireland) - - News - BY KAREN ROCKETT

A GRAN of 81 has become the oldest person to cycle the length of Britain.

Mavis Paterson rode the 960-mile distance from Land’s End to John O’Groats in 23 days.

She raised more than £50,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support in memory of her three adult children who died within four years of each other.

After pedalling into John O’Groats yesterday with pal Heather Curley, 55, Mavis, from Stranraer, said: “The funds raised will help so many people who need it, and that’s what matters.”

Last year she did a 24-hour cycle ride – and 10 years ago she rode across Canada for the charity.

Her latest feat is expected to be confirmed by Guinness World Records.
