What’s it worth?

- JAMIE BREESE

Q I have a Wembley Stadium seat signed by 1966 World Cup Final hero Sir Geoff Hurst. It is framed and comes with images from the final itself. Any clue as to its value?

Tracy Alexander, via email

This seat may have been from a series of 50 released and is worth around £400-£500 – though it would benefit from expert inspection to nail down the price. It’s a fabulous item for a football fan. Hurst’s hat-trick on July 30, 1966, secured England’s 4-2 win over West Germany. The shirt he wore that day once netted a mighty £91,750 in an auction at Christie’s.

Q I have a black Wedgwood trinket box which I acquired some 20 years ago and I wonder if you can tell me what it is worth?

Jean Hope, Washington, Tyne & Wear

This jasperware box, decorated with cherubs, is one of the most popular of Wedgwood items. But it is not that old and is probably worth just £30 or so. While Wedgwood produced some figures in jasper, it was more often used for pin trays, vases, trinket boxes and jardinieres.

Q I have a Corgi Fawlty Towers car and Basil Fawlty figure in its original packaging. It is in perfect condition and probably about 35 years old. Is it worth much? Jane Holland, via email

A

Your car is a celebration of the unforgettable scene from the sitcom’s Gourmet Night episode – where Basil gives his car “a damn good thrashing” with a branch after it breaks down. They were great days for telly fans back in the 1970s and millions tuned in to see John Cleese play the eccentric hotelier in the BBC show.

The car is an Austin 1300 and in perfect condition – both toy and box – you could expect somewhere between £30 and £60. Not a huge amount, I know. There are some versions out there signed by Cleese which do sell for a little bit more than that – around the £75 mark.
