Sunday Mirror (Northern Ireland) - - News - BY ALAN SELBY

BODIES are lying in hospital mortuaries for as long as to two years when families fail to claim them or police probe the deaths.

Police investigations have kept one man’s corpse at Winchester Hospital, Hants, since May 2017.

A Freedom of Information request by the Sunday Mirror also revealed eight bodies have been left unclaimed at Manchester’s Wythenshawe Hospital for between six weeks and a year and Mid Yorkshire Hospitals have held three corpses for over a year.

The body of one man, who died at 36, has been there for 21 months.

Every year thousands of councils arrange “paupers’ funerals” if the deceased’s families cannot be traced or no funeral arrangements have been made.
