Boyd up for slice of Test history
BOYD RANKIN will walk into the history books when he strolls out with Ireland at Lord’s for England’s first four-day Test on Wednesday.
Rankin will become the first former England player since 1946 to play against the country that handed him his debut.
The last cricketer to achieve that unlikely double was the Nawab of Pataudi Snr with India 73 years ago. Rankin played his sole Test for England during the Ashes tour of 2013/14 when the visitors suffered a 5-0 thrashing.
Rankin (right) said: “This is a real celebration of the fact Ireland have got Test cricket now. But it’s a game against England, so there’s only thing you want to do – and that’s win!”
