GUNNERS GET KICK OUT OF SIGNING DANI

- BY HARRY PRATT

DANI CEBALLOS may look a little lightweight but Arsenal’s on-loan Real Madrid midfielder is as hard as nails, according to Unai Emery.

And the Gunners supremo reckons the Spain star (right) is a shining example for the rest of his squad.

Dedicated, determined, and with an unwavering desire to be involved in the thick of the action – no matter how much it hurts – Ceballos has all the traits that Emery demands. Those qualities were on view last week when the 23-year-old faced Real’s big rivals Barcelona.

The Bernabeu youngster was subjected to some savage treatment yet, reported for training just 24 hours later – ready to go. Emery said: “Ceballos’ mind is very strong. Last Sunday when he received a big kick on his ankle I was thinking: ‘Pfff, it’s broken’. But on Monday he was back in training, saying, ‘I’m fine and want to train’.

“He is showing us every day his ambition and that his hunger is big. We need players like this.”

Take note Mesut Ozil. The German midfielder, along with left-back Sead Kolasinac, is out of Arsenal’s trip to Newcastle today amid new security fears after the horrific car-jacking attack on the pair in north London recently.

But even when Ozil is back and available, Emery has suggested it is last-chance saloon.

The Gunners’ best-paid player – on £300,000 a week – was a flop last season and has fallen out with Emery numerous times.

The Emirates boss was desperate to sell him this summer. Trouble is, nobody was interested in buying because of Ozil’s sulky reputation and bank-bulging salary.

Emery said: “Can Mesut play in matches in our way? I want the best performances – individually and collectively – with big commitment.”
