Sunday Mirror (Northern Ireland) - - Kerry Tyrone -

I HAD my first competitive game as manager of Brisbane Roar this week – and I could not have been prouder of my team.

They were given no chance against last season’s champions Sydney in the FFACup, especially as our opponents had been to the final for the past three years and had never lost at home in the history of the competition!

That we won was impressive enough. But to do it with seven new players – and with the manager throwing in a 16-year-old kid just hours after he signed his scholarship forms – was bloody impressive.

It’s been a breathless first month here, but we have already moulded a team that shows plenty of spirit, plays together as a unit – and there’s lot more to come. I’m delighted to say our ideas are already working, and also pleased to tell you that

I’m practising what I preach – we haven’t conceded a goal so far in three friendlies and this competitive cup match.

A solid foundation is the basis for success!
