Kellie: I collapsed on the MasterChef set and next thing was rushed to hospital...
MasterChef stars tell of baby trauma
KELLIE Maloney has told how she collapsed in the Celebrity MasterChef kitchen and was rushed to hospital because of the stress of filming.
The ex-boxing promoter, 66 – known as Frank before becoming a woman – lost consciousness after a day cooking for judges Gregg Wallace and John Torode.
“Mentally I got exhausted,” she recalled. “I wanted to go home but they wanted some more filming.
“The next thing I knew I was on the floor with all my fellow celebs and the judges around me. Paramedics arrived and said I needed to go to hospital.
“When they took my blood pressure I was 240 over 180. The paramedic said they couldn’t believe I hadn’t had a stroke. I didn’t want to go to hospital but they said I had to and rushed me there in an ambulance.”
Doctors kept Kellie in for observation but the hit BBC show’s producers and her fellow celebrity chefs – Geordie Shore’s Vicky Pattison, 31, and Olympic gold medallist Greg Rutherford, 32 – offered support.
“I was there for nine hours,” she said. “I can’t remember much about that day. But I got some nice texts from Vicky and Greg checking I was OK.”
The drama came days after Kellie revealed she made a suicide bid last year. She had been struggling to come to terms with her

“I opened a bottle of wine and took every pill in the house. I took 150 pills. I was having problems with my sexuality.”
This week Kellie explains that struggle. “I don’t think of sex or being intimate with anyone,” she says on C4’s High Society: Cannabis Cafe, where she smokes the drug in Amsterdam. “I’m scared of having sex – I’ve never admitted that before.”
And she said of the drug: “I went back to my hotel room and thought green men were chasing me. I was convinced they wanted to take me to Mars. It was the first time I’d tried cannabis – and the last.”
As Frank Maloney, the ex-trainer from Peckham, South London, became one of the boxing’s biggest names, helping Lennox Lewis to the heavyweight world title in 2000.
Now Kellie has moved to Portugal to escape social media harrasment, explaining: “Life’s totally changed. I’ve got my dogs here, I’m getting more animals. Two goats, two alpacas and a donkey. This is home now.”
High Society: Cannabis Cafe is on Channel 4 on Tuesday at 10pm.
THEY’VE enjoyed a TV bromance for 16 years – and now Celebrity MasterChef co-stars Gregg Wallace and John Torode have revealed that their partners share a special bond.
As Gregg and his wife Anne-Marie Sterpini struggled to conceive for two years, John’s fiancée Lisa Faulkner reached out to share her IVF trauma.
Former EastEnders star Lisa, 47, adopted daughter Billie, 12, in 2007 after failing to get pregnant with her ex-husband, actor Chris Coghill.
Gregg, 54, said: “Lisa messaged me and said, ‘I know you are struggling to conceive, I’ve been through this and if Anna wants to speak to me I’ve got advice for her’. Then, of course, the miracle happened when we were out in Tuscany and conceived naturally.
“The red wine and warm weather must have worked! I love Lisa. I’ve never seen John so happy or relaxed.” John, 54, says his wife-to-be was only too happy to offer a friendly ear to Anne-Marie, who at 33 is 21 years Gregg’s junior. John
said: “Lisa had her own IVF journey and adopted Billie. Whenever we see someone going through a difficult situation we may have had experience of, we want to help them. We are all here as friends to help each other.”
Former greengrocer Gregg said of son Sid, who arrived in May: “I feel incredibly lucky. I really miss him when I’m away.”
Anne-Marie’s Italian mother Rina lives with the couple in Kent and looks after Sid at night when Gregg is at home so he can get uninterrupted sleep.
“There’s no way I could do filming the next day if I don’t get my sleep,” he said. “Not at my age!”
Celebrity MasterChef continues tomorrow at 9pm on BBC One.
