Froome: I’ve had a bloody terrible year

Sunday Mirror (Northern Ireland) - - News - BY PHIL CARDY

CHRIS Froome’s accidenthit year has continued after he sliced his thumb open with a kitchen knife.

Medics had to operate on the four-times Tour de France champion.

Yesterday he tweeted a pic from his hospital bed with the message: “Stupidly cut my thumb with a kitchen knife and had to have surgery to put the tendon back together last night.

“Stuck giving a thumbs-up for a couple of weeks.

“This is not my year. Can’t wait for 2020.”

In June he lost four pints of blood after hitting a wall at 40mph, breaking his neck, femur, elbow, hip and ribs.

Froome, 34, missed this year’s Tour De France but was back in the saddle just 10 weeks later.

He said: “I was incredibly lucky not to be more seriously injured.”
