Vinga of fate hits United bid

- BY TOM HOPKINSON

MANCHESTER UNITED’S hopes of landing French wonderkid Eduardo Camavinga have been dealt a blow.

Camavinga, 18, regarded as one of the hottest young prospects in the game, is now likely to sign a new deal with Rennes.

United scouts have made regular checks on the midfielder, who made his French Ligue 1 debut at 16 and has stayed in the first team ever since.

Angolan-born Camavinga won his first senior cap for France earlier this season to become the youngest player to represent Les Bleus since 1932.

The player is out of contract in 2022, but is ready to sign a one-year extension to avoid leaving on a free.

STEVEN GERRARD is being lined up to replace Jurgen Klopp with increasing doubts over the Liverpool boss’s long-term future.

There is a growing belief the German, who ended Anfield’s 30-year wait for the title, will say yes to the chance of succeeding Joachim Low as national coach.

Klopp, 53, is the top candidate for the German Football Association (DFB) and they will make their approach once Low’s own future is sealed.

And according to a well-placed Liverpool source it would be one Klopp would find difficult to resist even though he is happy on Merseyside.

Liverpool’s principal owner, John W Henry, and chairman Tom Werner have been keeping a close eye on the way Gerrard (above) is leading Rangers.

And with the Kop legend about to land the Scottish title it has confirmed their belief he and Ibrox assistant, another ex Anfield star Gary McAllister, have the right credentials.
