Big Jab push as NI sees 4 more deaths

- BY ORLAITH CLINTON

DON’T miss out on the Big Jab Weekend – that’s the message for the second and final day of the special vaccination promotion.

Health Minister Robin Swann described yesterday, the first day of the big drive, as “very encouraging”, as hundreds queued to be vaccinated.

He said: “To anyone still holding back, my message is simple – don’t be left behind. Please head to one of our mass vaccination clinics or mobile pop-up clinics today.

“Vaccination protects you and the people around you and it opens doors to normality.”

The Big Jab Weekend promotion yesterday and today sees Northern

Ireland’s mass vaccination centres offering walk-in first jabs for all adult age groups.

The participating mass vaccination centres today are: SSE Arena, Belfast; Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast; Seven Towers Leisure Centre, Ballymena; South

Lake Leisure Centre, Craigavon; The Foyle Arena, Derry; and Lakeland Forum, Enniskillen.

Meanwhile, four further deaths linked to Covid-19 have been reported in Ulster.

About 86% of the population have received their first dose of a vaccine, but concerns have been repeatedly expressed about a lower uptake among younger people.

The Department of Health said there had been 1,612 new confirmed cases of the virus and four deaths in the last 24-hour reporting period.

The total has fallen from Friday, when Northern Ireland recorded 2,397 cases, its highest number of Covid-19 cases in a day since the start of the pandemic.
