IT’S ALL AUBA AT ARSENAL

-

I DON’T know what’s going on at Arsenal, but it seems all is not well in their camp.

You have to take it at face value that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette (both above) and Willian have been isolating because of Covid.

But you have to question whether they’d be playing anyway, when they are the most likely to raise funds before the window closes.

Mikel Arteta has spent more money than any other Premier League manager this summer.

And I can’t believe the board won’t be looking to claw some of that back.

Arsenal started the season disastrously at Brentford.

They are up against it. Eighth last season, eighth the season before, fifth, sixth and fifth before that. Facts dictate they’re no longer a Champions League team.

The last time they even qualified was back in 2016 and it’s had a devastating impact on their finances.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see them finish outside all the European places completely this season.

And that’s before next week, when one of their big players could leave.

If it’s Aubameyang, then

I’d be asking serious questions if I was an Arsenal fan. They went all out to give him a ridiculous contract last year, when they were laying off staff.

He was 31 when they gave him that crazy deal.

No way would Liverpool, Manchester United or City do that these days for a striker.

Now he’s 32 and I’m sure they’d like to get that money off the wage bill.

Arsenal must take a long, hard look at the business they do and what is required to get back to the levels they had under Arsene Wenger.

And I fear that will be a difficult road for them, which could take years to achieve.
