Pleas for Xmas PL shutdown

-

League clubs will meet to discuss what to do next.

Much of the blame for the positive tests is being put on unvaccinated players, with only 68 percent having had two doses according to the latest figures released by the Premier League.

As Covid continues to decimate the game, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has made it clear he will not sign unvaccinated players next month.

He says they represent a ‘constant threat’ to the rest of the squad.

Meanwhile Spurs ace Heung-min Son confirmed he has had both doses in a bid to protect his fellow pros and the wider public.

Collymore’s comments come on the back of Brentford boss Thomas Frank’s call to cancel all of this weekend’s fixtures.

He added: “I completely agreed with what Thomas said and I would have postponed the whole Christmas programme.

“Omicron is not going away. I’d have shut things down from Thursday when Manchester United’s clash with Brighton bit the dust and I wouldn’t have restarted until January 1.

“My big fear is that football, with its huge crowds, will be a superspreader of Omicron, an incredibly infectious virus which clearly isn’t going away anytime soon.

“Football at Christmas is about going with families, but maybe postponing matches would make people think twice about travelling the length or breadth of the country.”

Villa returned more positive tests yesterday morning and submitted a request to have their game postponed to the Premier League Board around 10am.

The Board then spent two hours verifying Villa’s medical information and the decision was made around 12pm before being made public at 12.45pm.

MANCHESTER UNITED are going all out to get their Premier League clash with Newcastle ON after a Covid outbreak at the club.

Yesterday’s game with Brighton was postponed as a result of just seven firstteamers being available.

United are now deep-cleaning Carrington and hope to have it open again by Tuesday while continuing to daily test in a bid to get a squad together for the trip to St James’ Park on December 27.
