Business rap Tory MP could face £5k fine

TV host and Red Wall Tory MP Dehenna Davison may face criminal proceedings and a £5,000 fine for breaking business rules.

Her firm was struck off the official Companies House register last month after failing to respond to two warnings.

Ms Davison, 28, set up PR and communications firm DSD22 Ltd in September, 2020 and nine months later she was earning £369 each Sunday hosting The Political Correction show for the GB News channel.

Her pay for four hours there was as much as a care worker earns for 40 hours in her Bishop Auckland constituency in Co Durham.

At the height of Covid Ms Davison described care workers as among the “unsung heroes” of the pandemic.

Labour chair Anneliese Dodds said: “Boris Johnson has broken his promise to cap MPs’ earnings from second jobs and we’ve now got a Tory MP failing to fulfil directorship minimum requirements. The PM needs to ensure his MPs are focused on the day job.” Firms get notice of a compulsory strike-off when Companies House does not receive documents to show they are trading.

Its guidance adds: “Failure to deliver the necessary documents may also result in directors being prosecuted.”

The firm is still on the Commons register of interests. She had an obligation to send in an annual confirmation statement to Companies House, costing £13 to complete online.

Companies House said: “We can’t comment on individual cases.” In 2018, Channel 4’s Bride and Prejudice showed Ms Davison’s wedding to Hull councillor John Fareham, 35 years her senior. They separated a year later before she became an MP in 2019, the first-ever Tory to win the Bishop Auckland seat.

As a Hull student Ms Davison had jobs in a casino, a betting shop, and Pizza Hut and she now posts on TikTok, with videos showing her doing her make-up and in the GB News studio.

She was approached for comment.
