Get behind the scenes

-

Close and personal

There are no sex scenes this season but plenty of passion. Bridgerton’s two “intimacy coordinators”, Elizabeth Talbot and Josh Okpala, brought on-screen chemistry to life, in a safe and considered way.

Double trouble

You’ll only ever see Daphne Basset, Phoebe Dynevor, cradling one baby this season but twins from an acting agency were used to cover the role between them.

Staying authentic

All season one’s carriage horses are back and season two has over 250 carriages. All the actors have their own horses on set, and Bridgerton’s horsemaster Steve Dent tried to give returning stars the same animal because they grow so attached to them. Jonathan Bailey rides a black Spanish friesian horse named Jack. Simone Ashley’s is a Spanish bay horse named Nirvana.

Wind-gate

Despite appearances, it is not always summer on Bridgerton. Many outdoor scenes were shot in and around last March, when temperatures were only around zero. While filming Lady Danbury’s garden party crew had to use hair dryers to defrost the top of the bushes. At one point, it was so windy a hedge toppled over in the background. The cast called it “wind-gate”.

Hair-raising

Queen Charlotte’s wig is so big it needed its own people-carrier to transport it and Lady Danbury’s hats were so high she had to have special transport on set. Some cast spent three hours in make-up as they had 360-degree hair pieces.

Food heaven

Bridgerton’s head foodie, Lisa Heathcote made the scones so they are smaller and more historically authentic. You’ll also see characters munching lavender shortbread and chickpea biscuits.

Personal trainers

Martins Imhangbe, who plays boxer Will Mondrich, was put through his paces by a personal trainer.
