A Little Miss Fabulous range for Comic Relief

Mr Men collection at TK Maxx is perfect for supporting a wonderful cause.. and for revisiting some wonderful childhood memories

When I was a child, my mum did absolutely everything for myself and my brother. It was the 80s and that’s just the way it was. My father’s job was to go to work and earn the money. As I said, my mum’s job was to do everything else.

But there was one thing she always insisted on my father doing – reading us a bedtime story. And I have to say, he was pretty brilliant at it.

Since we were quite young, my brother and I shared a room together, so for a while at least, my dad was able to entertain both of us with the one story.

And there was one collection of books from which we always, ALWAYS chose – the Mr Men collection.

They were just so much fun and turned us into Mr and Little Miss Giggles every night, helped along by my dad’s unique talent of giving every character a hilarious voice.

Fast forward many years later and history is repeating itself in our house.

In our hometown, we are very lucky to have the most wonderful library.

I signed my daughter up not long after she was born as I was determined to make books a big part of her life from as early an age as possible.

And, just like her mum, she loves to read. Any Saturday when we find ourselves at a loss for something to do, we jump on the train to exchange our library books for something new and exciting to read.

Of course, being six, she tends to judge a book by its cover, and if it doesn’t have anything to do with unicorns, fairies, rainbows or princesses, then it’s a no-go.

Being the chief bedtime book reader, I also like to have a new story to look forward to during the week, as it makes it just that little less monotonous. And so our library choices do the job for both of us for a few nights.

But my daughter inevitably always retracts back to the tried and tested – Mr Men and Little Miss books.

She adores them just as much as my brother and I did and I try my very best to do my father’s voices justice, but I’m afraid that is impossible.

But she doesn’t seem think so, and she loves every second of this precious time we share together.

Giggles and smiles galore, from both of us to be honest.

And the characters ignited another smile from me during the week when I was browsing in a TK Maxx store.

I noticed a stand selling some fantastic Mr Men and Little Miss items and threw several in my basket.

And my smile grew even wider when I realised they were for Comic Relief.

I just love when it turns out that something I really want to buy is also something which is for a good cause.

And there are few causes in the world better than Comic Relief.

Of course, the big night has been and gone, having taken place on Friday with an amazing £34million being raised for charities across the UK.

But the fundraising doesn’t just end when the show ends, as anything you buy afterwards will still go towards the causes.

So if you too are a fan of Roger Hargreaves’ legendary characters and you would like a way of introducing your little ones to them, be sure to check out your local TK Maxx as this range is a must for both big and little kids.
