When form follows Function (of Beauty)

I love it when a bright, new, shiny press release representing a bright, new, shiny product lands in my inbox.

And recently, one in particular caught my eye – and as you can see from the pictures, how could I have missed it?

I had never heard of the brand Function of Beauty before, but anyone I know who knows anything about the hair industry certainly has.

It is the brand that created the world’s first totally customisable shampoo and conditioner.

Stemmed from the belief that there is no one size fits all and that each person deserves a product just for them, tailored to their hair, skin types, goals and preferences, Function of Beauty was born.

So how it works is, the brand’s one-of-a-kind production facility makes millions of different formulas.

Its proprietary algorithm creates your unique custom care on demand.

Your haircare is created fresh and shipped within hours of being bottled.

And now, the brand has brought a new customisation experience inspired by their mission that every person deserves a product made just for them, tailored to their hair or skin type, goals, changing needs and preferences.

Over the course of two years, the Function team went to work and designed product and packaging solutions to bring customisable shampoo and conditioners to the haircare aisle.

This new concept and shopping experience gives consumers options to literally mix their own custom shampoo and conditioner at home for a formula that delivers their ultimate hair goals at home.

In the UK, most haircare brands only market to one specific need: anti-frizz, volumising, moisture, etc. and don’t service specific hair types.

This means the shopper will usually have to buy several products to address different hair concerns.

With Function of Beauty’s Customisable Shampoo & Conditioners, shoppers no longer need to choose between a one-catch-all benefit, when purchasing their hair care in stores.

So how does it work? Well...

With four shampoo & conditioner bases to choose from based on your hair type & texture (straight, wavy, curly and coily), shoppers can select three hair goal booster shots from out of 10 options (strengthen, deep condition, volumise, shine, curl definition, anti-frizz, soothe scalp, lengthen, colour protection, and thermal protection). So there are more than 3,000 possible combinations that can be created out of the 18 bases and goals.

At home, users will take the booster shots and pour them into the shampoo and conditioner base that they have selected before shaking vigorously.

Then, voila! A custom shampoo and conditioner, made for you, by you.

And not only that, but all products are formulated with clean and quality ingredients that are at least 92% naturally derived, sulfate-free, paraben-free, vegan, cruelty-free, curly and coily bases are silicone-free, erm-tested, suitable for sensitive skin, non-irritating.

Talk about putting the ‘fun’ back in fun-ction!
