Waddle’s message to Kane: I’d hate to see you leave Spurs, but if you do, go abroad to Real or Bayern like other great strikers

- EXCLUSIVE BY JOHN RICHARDSON

CHRIS WADDLE believes that Real Madrid and Bayern Munich would be the perfect way out for Harry Kane after witnessing the England captain’s growing frustration.

Former Tottenham and England legend Waddle would love to see Kane stay in north London.

But, with a year remaining on Kane’s Spurs deal, the biggest decision in the career of England’s record goalscorer is looming.

Manchester United are known to be big admirers, with manager Erik ten Hag also making it crystal clear that signing a No.9 is his top priority this summer.

Waddle, who was at St James’ Park as Newcastle humiliated Tottenham 6-1, said: “I watched Harry walking off at half-time with Spurs 5-0 down.

“He was livid and thinking, ‘What am I doing there? I’m the England captain, England’s record goalscorer, and we’ve been embarrassed’.

“If Tottenham were 10th, I could have understood it better, that they were already on the beach. But they are going for a Champions League spot.”

Spurs face another stern examination of their mental state at Anfield today, while Kane knows the speculation over his future is ramping up.

Waddle said: “I would go abroad, if I was Harry.

“He’s a good age, he’s 29. He has years ahead of him, because he is a fit lad. He doesn’t miss many games.

“Harry’s a great player now. That experience of playing in a different country would make him even better.

“With my Tottenham links, I wouldn’t want to see him join another Premier League club.

“I think it would be hard for him to run out in a Manchester United shirt after all his years at Spurs.

“Chelsea would be desperate to sign him, but he daren’t go there because of the fierce rivalry between the two clubs.

“Away from the Premier League, he could play on for another seven or eight years if he went to Italy, Germany or Spain.”

If Kane moved abroad, he would be following in the footsteps of several past Spurs greats, including Waddle himself. “Most of Tottenham’s top players leave,” Waddle added. “Glenn Hoddle left [for Monaco], Paul Gascoigne left [for Lazio], and I left [ for Marseille].

“The fans related to all three of us just like they do to Harry now. “Like Glenn, Harry has been at Tottenham all his footballing life and I see a lot of the fans thinking, ‘If he goes, what’s going to happen to the club?’. But things move on, clubs change, and, if I was Harry, I would seriously consider the options in the summer.”

For Waddle, the potential opportunities at Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are the ones that stand out.

He saidd: “At Real, Karim Benzema is 35. Harry would be a great fit for the way they play. Bayern need a No.9 – as they haven’t replaced Robert Lewandowski. Look at Italian clubs rebuilding – would Juventus want to invest in him? Or AC Milan, because Olivier Giroud isn’t getting any younger. Harry could play in Italy to Giroud’s age, 36.

“Or he could say,

‘I’m desperate for

Spurs to win a trophy and be part of that. A new manager will be coming in and I want to see what happens’.

“He might even see something which will make him want to finish his days at Tottenham.”

‘It would be hard for Harry to wear a Manchester United shirt’
