From Doll to DBE.. Joan’s absolutely fabulous 90 yrs
23 MAY 1933 Born to Elsa, a dance teacher, and Joe, a theatrical agent. 1942 Stage debut aged nine in the Henrik Ibsen play A Doll’s House. 1950 Aged 17, signs to the Rank Organisation, leading to British films. 1952 Catapults to fame playing a juvenile delinquent in I Believe in You. 1955 Hollywood debut in The Virgin Queen alongside Bette Davis.
1956 Top billing as a young nun in Sea Wife, with Richard Burton as co-star. 1961 Stars opposite Bing Crosby and Bob Hope in The Road to Hong Kong. 1963 Starts TV career with roles in The Human Jungle, Batman, The Man from U.N.C.L.E, and Star Trek.
1978 Finds mega-stardom after starring in The Stud, and sequel The Bitch in 1979. Memoir Past Imperfect hits No.1.
1981 Accepts the part of Alexis
Carrington Colby in Dynasty. By
1985 it is the No.1 show in the US.
1983 Wins Golden
Globe and gets a
Hollywood Walk of
Fame star.
1982-1989 While filming Dynasty, makes films and
TV shows, including
Nutcracker.
1990 After
Dynasty, makes
Broadway debut as Amanda in Noel
Coward’s Private
Lives. Continues with films and TV.
1994 Receives a lifetime achievement award from the Visit Association of to Walk of Fame Breast Cancer Studies for raising awareness of the disease.
1997 Awarded an OBE for her services to drama.
2000 Replaces Elizabeth Taylor in The Flintstones in Viva Las Vegas. 2002 Marries fifth husband Percy Gibson at Claridge’s in London.
2005 Joins TV series Footballers’ Wives as Eva de Wolffe.
2006 Tours with one-woman show An Evening with Joan Collins. 2010 Stars in Dick Whittington in Birmingham alongside
Julian Clary and Nigel Havers. 2013 Joins cast of Benidorm as Crystal Hennessy-Vass. 2015 Sister Jackie Collins dies of breast cancer aged 77. Joan is made a Dame in New Year Honours for charity work. 2016 Cameo role in Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie.
2022 Appears in the film musical Tomorrow Morning.
2023 On UK tour to coincide with her memoir Behind the Shoulder Pads.
