Caribbean break that has the Me
succumbing to the temptation of a cheeky morning Mimosa as the week went on.
With so many restaurants spread across the three sections offering a mixture of buffet and a la carte we were more adventurous for our other meals.
Lunches at the poolside grills and takeaway sandwich shops were quick and convenient, as were the buffets.
At dinner the most popular restaurants tended to fill up quickly so larger groups should probably book ahead. But as a couple we found the waiting time tended to be perfect for a margarita or glass of champagne at a nearby bar.
Our favourite dinners were at Arrecifes, a Brazilian churrascaria place where meat on skewers is served at your table, Momo for sushi, the seafood selection of Palapa Fragata and the Mexican experience at Los Caporales. There are a further three options up the drive at the clubhouse for the 27-hole Jack Nicklaus Signature golf course, which has an additional spa and swimming pool.
Moon Palace provides a credits system for guests to use for on-site activities like golf or the spa, but they can also be redeemed against off-site excursions. We chose a snorkelling day with Mayan Adventures ( aventurasmayas.com). The Yucatan peninsular is made up of limestone which erodes creating sinkhole lagoons called cenotes.
The cenote chosen for our tour had a small cliff jump and a zipline – but after the fun of a couple of plunges, it was time to immerse ourselves in the calmer, underwater world with our snorkels.
Our second stop was a cavern containing clear fresh water. The only wildlife to be seen here were fruitbats and the catfish which live on their droppings.
