Redfearn’s in dark on job future

- At Elland Road

LEEDS head coach Neil Redfearn hopes to hold talks with club president Massimo Cellino next week in a bid to secure his future at the club.

Cellino’s ban from having any executive influence at the club following his tax conviction in Italy ends today – and first up he must decide whether to renew Redfearn’s contract, which expires in June.

The Italian didn’t attend the season finale despite being given permission by the Football League.

“I’ve had no contact as such,” said Redfearn. “We’re free now obviously to discuss things, so I would expect next week we’ll sit down and chat.”

On Leeds’ season he added: “It has been stressful. The last thing you want is to have Leeds United in the bottom three, so we’ve had to really dig deep and come up with the answers.”

Last-ditch tackles in either half by Kari Arnason and Richard Wood denied Leeds pair Charlie Taylor and substitute Billy Sharp.

But Rotherham were not without their own chances. Danny Lafferty went close with a first-half header.

Leeds midfielder Rudy Austin forced Emi Martinez into a sprawling save in the 86th minute and Sol Bamba then headed straight at the Rotherham goalkeeper, while visiting substitute Jonson Clarke-Harris hit a thumping free-kick, which flew just wide in the 89th minute.

Rotherham manager Steve Evans (below) delivered on his promise to turn up in beachwear if he kept his side up, sporting sombrero, shorts, flip-flops and sunglasses, raising money for charity. “If it helps one little kid I don’t mind looking like an idiot for a day,” said Evans.
