SHERIDAN READY FOR PILGRIMS FIGHT

-

they made sure they went into the end-of-season tournament in buoyant mood following a victory over a Shrewsbury side who were going for the title.

The win was even more impressive considering it came without two of their leading forwards in Reuben Reid and Lewis Alessandra, with Bobby Reid and Kelvin Mellor grabbing the goals.

Asked for his thoughts on the two-legged affair with Wycombe, Sheridan said: “It will be tough.

“It doesn’t matter who we were playing, I’m expecting tough games.

“We’ll prepare properly all week for what’s going to be a good atmosphere, a full house. We’re at home first so we would like to go into the game and try to get an advantage.”

Sheridan was elated with the performance against the Shrews, adding: “Coming up against a team who were going for the title, I thought we were top drawer from the first whistle.

“Our first-half performance was really good. We created chances and caught them on the break. Our work ethic was good and it suited us a little bit because they played the same system as us.”

Shrewsbury had already sealed a League One berth, but they finished the season in second place as Burton saw off Cambridge to remain at the summit.

Shrews boss Micky Mellon was quick to pay tribute to the champions.

“They were worthy winners, relentless to the end, and congratulations to Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and his players,” he said.

“We weren’t quite good enough towards the end and finished runners-up, which is still a fantastic effort.”
