GOLD BOYS SHINING ON

- BY ADAM HATHAWAY at Sixways Stadium

WORCESTER boss Gary Gold settled a painful score with his old club – but refused to admit his new outfit were finally safe.

South African Gold was dumped by Bath in December 2013 without getting a fair crack of the whip but had his revenge here yesterday.

Victory leaves Worcester 12 points clear of Bristol at the bottom and if Bristol lose today against Wasps, they are down the gurgler.

But Gold – at Sixways on a temporary deal – refused to believe Warriors are safe until it is a done deal. He also knocked back suggestions he had got ‘revenge’ over Bath.

He said: “It should not be about me and what happened. We have made some progress and that is satisfying.

“It would be unbelievably arrogant to sit here and say we are safe when an unbelievable team like Bristol have two homes out of three.”

Gold’s Warriors were right on it yesterday, with Ben Te’o doing his Lions’ chances no harm in front of assistant coach Rob Howley.

Worcester hustled Bath all day and came back from 13-6 down on 44 minutes to dominate the second half.

Te’o’s burst to make the second score for Wynand Olivier broke open the game and second row Will Spencer finished it off with eight minutes left.

Bath’s chances of making the top four look remote now and director of rugby Todd Blackadder groaned: “Unforced errors just killed us.

“We knew what was at stake and that is what it makes it more disappointing.”
