Cop suspended for ‘sexist, racist’ texts to WPC

- BY AMY SHARPE

A POLICEMAN has been suspended over claims he sent sexual and racist texts to a vulnerable rookie female officer he was meant to be helping.

Detective Sergeant Stephen Redgewell, 52, was assisting the WPC in his role with the Police Federation.

The young married woman, who is of Asian heritage, was putting together an employment tribunal case against the Metropolitan Police after an undercover operation left her with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

It is claimed Redgewell sent her messages with “unwanted inappropriate sexual content” including racist and homophobic language between 2015 and 2017.

One read: “Sleep well my dirty Catwoman.” In another, he said of another colleague: “It’s a bossy Muslim woman thing lol xxx”.

After telling him she had a temperature, Redgewell is said to have replied: “Stick a thermometer up your b*m lol xx”.

When she told him how she had lost her temper from stress, he is alleged to have replied: “Lol it’s because you want to marry me instead and you are taking your anger out on them don’t deny it.”

He also said she had competition because “my Turkish Muslim wants to marry me now”.

In other texts he joked that Saudi was “renowned for pork pies” and observed: “I’m not sure what it is about Middle Eastern countries and pigs.”

A colleague reported him after growing concerned about his alleged conduct.

The woman had been sent to trace a cousin who had fled to Pakistan after a murder – despite being just out of probation and with no undercover training.

When the suspect rumbled her, he held a gun to her head and threatened to kill her. She was later medically retired. yow has had triplets. The smallest will hopefully be adopted on to another yow expecting a single lamb, but for now the children are feeding him on a bottle.

A yow can only really rear one or two lambs.

The main flock of Swaledale sheep isn’t due to lamb until mid April – late in the season, because of the weather.

Spring comes late on the hill farms and, with snow still on the ground and an icy wind, there’s no fresh grass around, which is what the sheep really need to make enough milk for rearing.

The hay barn is nearly empty, the silage is almost gone and crop is terribly difficult to find.

I did see turnips at the supermarket at 19p each and wondered if they were cost effective.

Whether Tesco would let me order 15 tonnes for home delivery remains to be seen.
