MATT THE STAR AS STEVE’S MEN FOLD

-

Brolly has got no lolly, so what does he do?

“It’s one of the worst days in my career,” admitted shell-shocked McClaren.

“The manner in which it happened. At 3-1 we collapsed and that is unacceptable.

“Unacceptable to QPR fans, unacceptable to us, the players, the club and we have to do something about it, beginning on Tuesday (at home to Bristol City).

“I am in shock. I never saw that coming. I’m now angry. We have to formulate what to do.

“There are a lot of things going on behind the scenes with embargoes, fines, but these young players need reinforcements

“You need to go through the fire sometimes to come out the other end. These players have been through the fire.”

Rangers got themselves back in the game and were level at 1-1 and optimistic at half time.

It was Matt Phillips who put the Baggies ahead on 29 minutes after keeper Matt Ingram had saved Dwight Gayle’s shot. Five minutes later QPR were level, even if it was a gift from Albion.

A freekick was not dealt with and Matt Smith headed the ball down, for central defender Joel Lynch to equalise.

Giant Smith is 6ft 5 in tall. QPR never looked like hitting any heights.

They shipped in six more goals in a dreadful second half.

Harvey Barnes, 20 years old and on loan from Leicester, looks a great prospect and he hit the post with a drive in the 53rd minute, giving Kieran Gibbs his first goal for West Brom from the rebound. Jay Rodriguez put away the first of his two penalties – for fouls to striker Gayle – and then Gayle got one himself in between. Phillips then added his second, and substitute Hal Robson-Kanu piled in No.7. “It was a good day for us,” said smiling Albion manager Darren Moore. “Good attacking football, but we know there are still big challenges ahead.”
