“One night she called them and they raised the subject of her health. But instead of a calm discussion, a huge argument broke out.
“They were adamant that they had ‘her best interests at heart’, but there was a screaming and yelling match between them all as Mel just shot them down. She was adamant her life was fine and they were interfering. After that she waited for them to go back to England before coming home. She acted like nothing happened and was off partying again. If anything her behaviour got worse.” Rusty reveals Andrea and Charlotte tried to enlist him to convince her to quit booze, while Mel kept haranguing them. “It was ugly. Mel would not let it go and felt they were out to get her.”
Rusty says that, amid the hell going on around Mel and her wrangling with ex Belafonte, at least one of her children is enjoying a steady parental relationship. He claims Angel gets on really well with her Hollywood star father Eddie Murphy, Mel’s ex. “She regularly sees Eddie at his home and they FaceTime too,” he says. “He is a good dad from what I saw, and his mother really dotes on Angel. At her 5th Grade graduation his whole family was there to support her and they had shared a joint birthday party at his house in April. I never saw Mel in Eddie’s company. She usually communicates with his mum.”
Rusty claims Belafonte’s lawyers have tried to persuade other people around Mel to give depositions to Judge Juhas – but adds: “I filed paperwork, not because I am on Stephen’s side – I don’t know the man – but because three of my friends convinced me to do it as it was the right thing for Mel and for the children.” Yesterday a source close to Mel hit back at Rusty. A friend repeated Mel’s blast that he was a disgruntled employee.
The source added: “Mel has agreed to get help because she has nothing to hide and is happy to act on the order of the judge. There is no dispute with her family – they are supporting her at the moment.”
A spokesman for Mel – who has vowed to go into rehab claiming she suffers from post traumatic stress disorder – declined to comment.
