Police and volunteers also combed the area near the home of beautician Sarah Wellgreen, 46.

They also confirmed her disappearance was not reported for two days. Det Supt Paul Fotheringham said: “Most significantly, she has now missed one of her children’s birthdays.”

A man in his thirties was arrested and held for three days before release pending further investigation.

Police appealed for any CCTV or dashcam film that could aid their inquiry.
