Mexican thieves stole my daughter’s organs

Mum’s horror at ‘stripped’ body

-

“incomplete information” over Amanda’s death almost a year ago.

A British pathologist said the cause of death given by Mexican authorities, listed as “visceral congestion”, was vague and not acceptable in this country.

Amanda’s sister Katie Miller-Gill, 35, added: “Where are my sister’s beautiful blue eyes? Why were they taken from her? Where is her brain, her heart? It feels like her passing wasn’t dignified.

“Did they steal all her organs for an illegal trade? Did they do it because she was English and so they thought they would get away with it? We haven’t got the answers.” Mum Elaine, from Shipley, West Yorks, cremated Amanda on her birthday, February 27. She said: “Her body came back to England and they did a CT scan and that’s when we found out.

“It was the most horrendous thing that could happen. She was a lovely girl.”

Yesterday hospital bosses and local justice chiefs insisted they had no idea what happened to Amanda, who had worked as a barmaid and waitress in Britain before going off travelling. Medics said it would have been illegal for her organs to be removed without permission and that the body was handed over to police in a sealed bag.

Angeles Nava, admin manager at the Hospital de Cos, said: “When she died the British embassy was called. They called the police, and the police came for the body. She still had all of her organs when she left here.”

The hospital also produced documents which it said showed the family still owed £1,600 towards treatment.

Local police would not speak to us but public prosecutor Edgar Camacho said he knew nothing of the vanished organs and that no inquiry had been launched.

But he claimed: “Hospital de Cos is a very bad hospital. Around 90 per cent of patients who are taken there die.”

At the inquest in Bradford, assistant deputy coroner Oliver Longstaff said it was a “great regret” that so much information was missing.

Mexico has a booming illegal organ trafficking trade, with claims of people being kidnapped and murdered just to remove parts of their bodies.

Only 45 Mexicans in every 10 million donate organs, compared to 470 in Spain which has the world’s highest rate.
