Angie tried to visit dying ‘rogue’ Den
EASTENDERS star Anita Dobson has revealed she tried to visit her screen husband Leslie Grantham before his death in June.
Dobson, 69, said: “I couldn’t get there. It was sad but, in a way, I don’t think he’d have wanted me to see him like that. All of my memories are still of that charming rogue.”
Their relationship as Walford’s Angie and Dirty Den was TV gold and the d ivorce scene on Christmas Day 1986 was seen by 30.1 million people.
Anita, playing in Cinderella at Hull, said they did not analyse the chemistry between them for fear of ruining it.
The Drama channel is re-running the explosive 1986 episodes from tomorrow. Grantham died in June aged 71.
