One show I’d never miss

-

God rest ye merry primary school parents – now deep in the role of wardrobe assistants for school nativity plays up and down the land.

It’s a very special time for me, mainly because my own parents never saw it as a big deal and never showed up for the plays I was in. Not even when I got to be Mary.

I had to sing and dance solo, one of the main memories of my whole school life. And I still recall the disappointment of looking into the audience and realising they weren’t there.

It’s why I’ve made every effort to be there – standing at the back of the hall, waving my hand, watching my sevenyear-old sing out of tune, forget her lines and show off her lack of dance skills.

A magical memory – because I know seeing me will mean the world to her.
