Stroke victim role like real life for Alison
AC TRE SS Al i s o n Steadman has told how her new role as a stroke victim has been all too close to real life.
She revealed how in a tragic coincidence, while she was filming one- off BBC1 drama Care, one of her oldest friends suffered a stroke.
Alison, 72, said: “I visited her in a stroke ward – not for research, but because she was my friend.
“She couldn’t speak. When you’ve known someone who’s feisty and chatty and full of opinions, then suddenly they can’t even say yes or no, that’s very painful to see.”
Alison plays bright grandmother Mary, who is suddenly unable to care for herself. Sheridan Smith, her Gavin & Stacey co-star, plays her daughter.
