Black Cats to face wor kids
SUNDERLAND have been handed an explosive Checkatrade Trophy derby against Newcastle’s kids.
Fans in the North East had wondered how long it would be until they saw the local rivals face each other again after Sunderland sank to League One.
But the derby fixture is now on, pitting the Premier League side’s junior team against Jack Ross’s seniors. The game will be played in January at the Stadium of Light – and is likely to draw a record crowd for the competition.
The Toon Under-21 side, managed by Ben Dawson, overcame Sol Campbell’s Macclesfield on penalties this week.
They can opt to play two senior players but have not done so in the first two rounds. Teen Elias Sorensen will be hoping to make an impact after scoring 18 so far this season.
