Care creates £850m debt

UNDERFUNDING for children’s services and adult social care have left councils £842million in debt, Labour has said.

It calculates half of authorities that provide care have overspent.

The figure was worked out after the Government released its funding settlement for local authorities.

Shadow communities secretary Andrew Gwynne said the Tories had “abandoned councils”.
