80s pop pair have lots to Shout about

- BY KAREN ROCKETT

UNWANTED kit belonging to pop duo Tears For Fears has been sold at auction for £40,000.

Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith, whose smash hits include the 80s anthem Shout, sold some of their old synthesisers which fetched between £2,100 and £5,500 each.

Other lots included the band’s old guitar amplifiers, pedal boards and VIP passes. The haul of memorabilia had been stashed in singer Roland’s garage and also included his ElectroVoice microphone.

Auctioneer Luke Hobbs said: “It’s like a time capsule of a rock band’s tour from over 20 years ago.

“It appears that once they completed their gigs back in 1996, all the equipment was put into storage – until now.”
