WHYTE FLAGS UP TITLE SHOT
DILLIAN WHYTE has warned Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder they cannot ignore him for ever.
The Jamaica-born, Brixton heavyweight will put himself in pole position to fight both world champions if he beats Dereck Chisora in London on Saturday.
And while he knows Wilder’s next outing is likely to be a Tyson Fury rematch, and while he refuses to be a pawn in negotiations for Joshua’s next fight in April, he would love nothing more than a shot at either man – or both – in 2019.
Whyte said: “I’m already No.1 contender with two governing bodies and when I beat Chisora I’m No.1 in four of them. They can’t avoid me for ever, so let’s see.
“If you look at the last five opponents I’ve fought and still haven’t had a world title fight, and look at the opponents Joshua fought for his world titles, Wilder fought for his world title and Fury fought for a world title, then you guys will see who’s doing all the dirty work and who isn’t scared to fight anyone.
“The fans can make their minds up on that.
“I’ll fight anyone, I don’t hide from anyone, I don’t try to get easy fights, I don’t sit down and wait.
“I want to be busy and I will fight anyone put in front of me. Even Chisora was shocked that I agreed to fight him instead of sitting down for three months waiting to fight AJ. But why would I do that?
“I’m not in it for the money. It’s an incentive but I want to be active and build my legacy.”
Whyte lost a thrilling contest to his old rival Joshua in December 2015 but his performance that night laid the foundations for him to kick on and he is a much better fighter than three years ago.
Twelve months later and on the back of a bad-blooded build-up, Whyte then claimed a split points decision win in a brutal fight with Chisora.
