Mar 4, 2009: Mallorca 1 Barcelona PEP GUARDIOLA insists he has no regrets about Manchester City’s failure to add more players to his title-winning squad in the summer.

City are again likely to be without midfield lynchpin Fernandinho for today’s clash at Southampton and the Brazilian now faces a fight to be fit for Thursday’s showdown at home with leaders Liverpool.

City lost out to rivals Manchester United in the fight for Fred in the summer and then saw Jorginho choose Chelsea ahead of Manchester.

Guardiola has reiterated that he will not be going into the market when the transfer window opens next month.

And he defended sporting director Txiki Begiristain for only adding £60million clubrecord signing Riyad Mahrez in the summer when other areas needed strengthening.

Guatrdiola said: “If Fernandinho is still injured I have to find a solution with the other players to win the games. “We tried (to sign more players in the summer). But when the players don’t want to come, what can you do?

“We waited until the end. The market was there, but it didn’t happen.

“But never in my career – at Barcelona or Bayern Munich – did I complain about what the clubs have tried to do.

“They do their best because they want to win too.

“They want to provide me with the best team possible – and they did it. I don’t have any regrets about that.” City will be without injured Benjamin Mendy, while stand-in left-back Fabian Delph is suspended.

Right-back Danilo is likely to switch flanks, with Kyle Walker coming back into the team.

City have lost three of their last four games to slip to third behind Liverpool and Spurs.

But Guardiola intends to attack his way out of the slump, and said: “The philosophy will not change. Why should I change? Because I lost two games? No way.”

We need to improve.“We are still trying new things and have to improve a lot.“Two wins is not enough and we are still in the process.“There is no magic, so we have to put in 100 per cent effort every time.“If you look at the table we are still near the bottom so have to keep fighting, and showing our desire. Every game.“It does not matter who we play — it is all about ourselves.“That is what the manager wants from us, to see a good reaction after losing to West Ham.“We are still positive and still hungry.”
