Lee has Moore quality

- By RICHARD LATHAM at Ashton Gate

BRISTOL CITY manager Lee Johnson likened Adam Webster to England World Cup winning captain Bobby Moore after beating nine-man Rotherham.

The visitors had fullback Billy Jones and midfielder Ritchie Towell sent off in the second half, but stayed level until Webster headed home a Jack Hunt cross on 86 minutes.

His first goal since signing from Ipswich Town last summer capped a composed defensive display by Webster (below) that had Johnson purring with admiration.

City’s boss said: “Adam is a brilliant player, as good a central defender as I have had as a manager .

“He is like a version of Bobby Moore, the way he plays.

“That might sound outrageous, but the style is similar in terms of touch, sweeping up and reading the game.

“We played really well, but you have to credit Rotherham for the way they battled with nine men.”

Jones was shown a second yellow for pulling back Famara Diedhiou on 64 minutes and eight minutes later Towell brought down Josh Brownhill and was shown a straight red.

Rotherham boss Paul Warne said: “I am not the sort of manager to blame referees for defeats and I take pride in the way we played.

“The lads were one mistake away from leaving the pitch like gladiators. I am just disappointed we failed to defend one cross.

“Other than that, I felt we were the better side.”
