HOSTS BLOW IT AFTER FLOODLIGHT FAILURE

- By ARINDAM REJ at Carrow Road

DANIEL FARKE blasted Norwich for “switching off” to concede two late goals – following a delay in play for a floodlight failure.

Norwich have smashed out a late sucker punch to so many teams this season, but this time they had a lethal taste of their own medicine.

A floodlight went out in the 84th minute, leading to the players going off and a 15-minute delay, with Norwich leading 3-2.

Many Canaries players were left in the dark when they came back out, as Derby dazzled.

Even at 4-3 though, Norwich had a last-gasp chance to draw but Jordan Rhodes hit the bar.

The delay was caused by the fuses being replaced, then Norwich blew it. Farke said: “If the match had carried on, we would have won. It took our momentum away.

“It was a situation we cannot influence but we don’t want to use it as an excuse.

“Definitely we are conceding too many goals. You cannot wait for a team-mate to defend when you can.”

The hosts had taken the game to Derby in the early stages.

Norwich’s breakthrough arrived after a move inspired by Ma r io

Marco Stiepermann and the

German cut the ball back for Ben Godfrey, who scored from eight yards.

Striker Teemu Pukki then quickly doubled the home side’s advantage when he struck after Vrancic’s burst and pass.

Norwich were undone by poor defending on set-pieces twice in quick succession just before half-time. Fikayo Tomori bagged the first Derby goal , firing in from 12 yards.

The visitors’ equaliser came when Harry Wil son’s corner fell for Mason Mount, who drilled in.

After that hectic first half, it was no surprise that it was a cagey start to the second. Norwich have seen so many late shows this season though and there was another explosive one to come.

Onel Hernandez restored their lead, delivering to the back post where Pukki finished.

Referee David Webb took the players off when the floodlight failed and when they returned, Norwich were caught napping.

Poor defending in a goalmouth scramble allowed Florian Jozefzoon to tap in.

And the hosts’ nightmare after Christmas was complete when Christoph Zimmermann’s blunder let Jack Marriott in and he finished.

Derby boss Frank Lampard said keeping their heads during the enforced break was key.

He said: “My message was to keep believing. Norwich have done it to teams a few times this season. But I had a feeling we were going to do it.”
