My pal finds it tough without Ant, says X Factor host

Dermot says: “Ant’s a dear ear friend. I think he’s scheduled d to come back to TV this year. r. As long as he’s happy. He just st needs to be in a good place.”

But it’s Holly who Dermot would like to see walking away with the trophy. “She did such a good job,” he says. “I’d like her to win.”

Despite presenting another series of The X Factor, Dermot is not on the shortlist. But he still has the chance to walk away with an award, as The X Factor is up for Best Talent Talen Show.

Britain’s Go Got Talent, Dancing on Ice, The Vo Voice and Strictly Come Dancing are also in the running.

Dermot says: “Strictly have beaten us on ratings. But Strictly’s like a nic nice bath. We’re like a hot and cold shower.”

And he’s still well up for the challenge.

Commenting on reports that Simon Cowell has signed a three- year deal for The X Factor, he adds: “I’d love to come back. I’m loving it more than ever.”

The 2019 National Television Awards are o on live from 7.30pm on I ITV on January 22. SAS: Who Dares Wins certainly pulls no punches in this series – as women take part for the first time.

They square up against the men in the boxing ring tonight, leaving one (male) recruit reeling.

Student Nathaniel Shaw, 27, struggles with the fact that he had to fight with a woman, Louise Gabbitas.

“I tried to mentally prepare myself for it, but it was one of the most difficult tasks I had to do during the series,” he says.

But midwife Louise, 29, shrugs it off. “Gender was irrelevant,” she says. “I would have been disappoint­ed if Nathaniel had held back.

“The task was about being equal and he completed the task as he should have.

“We’ve discussed the situation at length and I understand I put him in a difficult position.

“I think how he’s handled it is commendabl­e.”
