Children’s plane fare same as for adults

-

SEVERAL airlines insist children who have their own seats pay the full adult fare.

Flight-only bookings at Tui and Thomas Cook cost the same for children and adults.

British Airways charges adult prices for children aged 12 and over. Those under two can travel on a parent’s lap at a reduced rate, and two to 11-year-olds get a discount.

On Virgin Atlantic, infants under two without a seat pay 10 per cent of the adult fare, children two to 11 pay 75 per cent, and passengers 12 and older are charged full price.

The Association of British Travel Agents said: “There is no legal obligation to give lower fares for children, so where this occurs it is in effect a form of discount.”
