f signed El Hadji dji Diouf, Salif Diao, Alou Diarra and Bruno uno Cheyrou – and that went well, didn’t dn’t it?!

It was the same in 2009, Alberto Aquilani Aquila i and Maxi Rodriguez were wer supposed to be the final pieces, p eces, but keeping Xabi Alonso may have been better. etter.

There’s a panic when, say, ay, Manchester City are signing si ning players – you feel you have to do the same to compete. comp te. But sometimes continuity co tinuity is better and dramatic d amatic signings upset the balance.

And keeping players is key. ey. In the past, some huge names were supposed to be t the he game g ame changers, but were Fernando Torres, res, Luis Suarez and Philippe hilippe Coutinho, ever truly committed ed if they got out t so readily?

I sense se Liverpool are a more settled d camp than n they’ve been n in ye a r s , decades even. n. No one is s leaving the e club this summer, none of the big b names, and that hasn’t happened for so long.

Maybe Torres, Suarez and even ev Coutinho felt something somethingg was missing from the club so th they ey had to go. But it’s clear r Virgil van Dijk doesn’t think that way – nor Mo Salah or Sadio Mane.

And that brings me to my second reason to trust t Klopp. Finally, he’s got a squad together he can keep k together. Don’t underestimate that, th he’s never had that before in his h

career. At Dortmund, he built bu some brilliant teams, team yet, as soon as he wo won something, somethin the best be p laye r s were wer cherry-picked. It was inevitable Robert Lewandowski and Mario Gotze would go. Now, he keeps every player he wants. They have paid massive money to reta retain this group and Klopp mu must be relishing the chance to discover what he can do w with a squad so cohesive and with such spirit.

They look as if they b believe in each other and a are enjoying their journey. K Klopp has won a trophy with ith a t team that he’s just formed and he knows they have reached only a fraction of their potential.

I’m sure he’d have loved to see where that Dortmund side, which won two German titles, could have ended up.

Now he has that opportunity with an even better team. And perhaps we’ll see just how good Klopp can become.

And don’t forget, just because Liverpool aren’t spending big this summer it doesn’t mean they’re broke. I’m sure that, if Klopp truly wanted someone, they’d find the money.

Maybe he knows – just like with Van Dijk and Alisson – he needs one particular player, and that player isn’t available this summer. So wait, rather than spend for the sake of it.

Don’t forget, there’s a January window, too, and, if he needs to, he can spend big then on the right candidate.

So, no need to panic – just a need for patience and trust in one of the best managers of his generation.
