Road plants get council out of a hole
RESIDENTS planted pink flowers in a pothole to draw the council’s attention – and saved their street from collapse.
Locals emailed a picture of the flowers to their council and repairmen were swiftly dispatched.
Engineers discovered a collapsed sewer which could have turned into a sinkhole.
The road in Leicester is now closed for repairs by Severn Trent Water.
Mags Lewis, who lives in the street, said: “It looks like the flower ruse was worth doing because it helped them find a much more serious issue.”
The city council said: “Investigations revealed what looks to be a collapsed sewer.
“Urgent works could last into next week.”
