I’m no control freak mother
I got slated on Loose Women and on social media this week for getting my 11-year-old son Zac to sign a contract with me before he got a mobile phone. I was branded a controlling parent – which is garbage. I just want him to stay safe and be responsible and not search for anything dodgy. Phones are not toys.
Giving my kids discipline, boundaries, standards and guidance is not controlling, it is called parenting.
But discipline has suddenly become a dirty word, as if it somehow hinders a child’s development or creativity. No wonder poor teachers are having to pick up the mess when kids arrive at school.
So I won’t apologise for taking an interest in my son’s life and what he does online and for wanting to keep him safe. It shows I love him.
