Ministers ‘fail to put obese children first’
OFFICIALS stand accused of putting food firms before health groups in the fight against child obesity.
Government staff saw businesses such as Nestle, McDonald’s and PepsiCo 88 times since last year.
But groups including Action on Sugar and the National Obesity Forum were only seen 12 times.
Shadow Public Health Minister Sharon Hodgson said: “They are prioritising the industry who need to make the change.”
Childhood obesity costs the NHS about £5.1billion.
But despite pledges, the Government has failed to deliver a policy to tackle it.
