Elton on how Sly and Richard fought over Diana

PRINCESS Diana almost sparked a punch-up between two Hollywood hunks who tried to chat her up.

It was Rocky versus An Officer And A Gentleman as Sylvester Stallone and Richard Gere came close to blows at a bash thrown by Sir Elton John, the singer claims in a new book.

He says they squared up to each other in a corridor at his home after Stallone had been eyeballing Di and Gere chatting together by a fireside.

raphy Me. The incident took place at a party the Rocket Man threw Disney boss Jeffrey Katzenberg in 1981. “We invited Diana, George Michael, Richard Gere and Sylvester Stallone, who were all in the country,” says the singer.

“Richard and Diana, who was separated from Charles, seemed very taken with each other. They sat in front of the fireplace in rapt conversati­on. But judging by the looks Sylvester kept shooting them, their blossoming friendship was not going down well.”

When dinner was served, the two men were missing. “David came back with both, wearing a fairly ashen expression. ‘Elton,’ he mumbled. ‘ We have a situation’. “After dinner, Diana and Richard resumed their position in front of the fire and Sylvester stormed off home.

He said, ‘I never would have come, if I’d known Prince f*** in’ Charming was gonna be here’.

“We managed to wait until his car was out of sight before we started laughing.”
