100 dead as protests rock Iraqi regime
THE death toll from antigovernment protests sweeping Iraq has soared to almost 100.
The figure has more than doubled since Friday as clashes intensify.
The country’s parliamentary human rights commission also said more than 3,000 people have been injured.
The army said “unidentified snipers” killed four in Baghdad, including two police officers.
The protests erupted last Tuesday amid frustration over Iraq’s high youth unemployment rate, dire public services and chronic corruption.
PM Adel Abdel Mahdi has called for calm.
