FARMERS SOW SEEDS OF CLIMATE PROTEST

- BY HALINA WATTS

FARMERS on a pink tractor are joining the Extinction Rebellion activists hoping to bring London to a standstill again.

And their leader claims he is ready to be arrested when they drive into the capital for the start of fresh protests tomorrow.

XR Farmers, led by Hampshire buffalo producer Dagan James, say they aim to educate the public about the climate and ecological emergency.

Mr James said: “The farming rural voice needs to be present in the conversation.

“We set up XR Farmers to show how certain ways of farming can help solve the problems we have got.”

Millions are expected to descend on cities around the world for the start of International Rebellion.

And the farmers are not expecting police to be as lenient as they were earlier this year, when activists blocked busy routes around London.

Mr James said: “We fully expect there will not be the police tolerance there was in April. But I am prepared to get arrested. We need the Government to engage properly.”

On Thursday, Mayor of London Sadiq Khan criticised radicals who used an old fire engine to spray 1,800 litres of fake blood on the Treasury building.

Mr Khan said the group were diverting resources away from problems such as knife crime.
