IT’S A STINKER, Jenas: I love Poch, but things are very stale... something must change
BRIGHTON 3 TOTTENHAM 0
JERMAINE JENAS last night insisted there was something rotten at the heart of Tottenham after this latest shocking defeat.
As last season’s Champions League f inali sts continued the i r appalling run of Premier League away form, TV pundit Jenas said: I’ve seen this at Tottenham. I’ve been at the club when it’s happened and it stinks of that at the moment.
“I love Mauricio, I really do – and I hope he stays – but it stinks of that type of moment when things seem very stale.”
The north Londoners look a busted flush right now.
Tottenham have now lost 17 games in all competitions in 2019, more than Mauricio Pochettino appears a broken manager, skipper Hugo Lloris has a dislocated elbow, while the entire team look a broken, battered unit.
They have now gone 10 games without a win on their travels, taking just two points from a possible 30.
You must rewind to
January and a trip to
Fulham to find the last occasion Spurs took maximum points on the road. Fair to say, then, the wheels have completely come off and, following this car crash of a performance at impressive Brighton, the big question is can they regroup and repair the huge damage done over the last two months?
Former Spurs midfielder Jenas ( below) told BT Sport: “Something needs to change. Hopefully, it’s the players’ mentality rather than the manager.
“I hope they sort it out. He’s a top manager and I don’t see where they can go. If they listened to him, they wouldn’t be in this situation now.” Afterwards, Poch admitted the international break could hardly be coming at a better time.
The under-fire Argentine said: “Yes, sometimes after the international break, you can change completely in
Tottenham have conceded 10 goals two weeks. You can change the dynamic, the energy. It’s so early in the season. We still believe.
“The last four or five days were tough, after the Bayern result and now this. After five-and-a half years, it’s the first time that we’ve had a really difficult situation.”
“It’s an experience we’re going to use to be stronger and be wiser, and to be a better group as people. We can bounce back.”
Pochettino confirmed that Lloris had a dislocated elbow, adding: “The news is not good from the hospital.
“Of course, that affected us. We cannot lie. To concede a goal after three minutes that way and lose the captain affected the players.”
