CHINA VIRUS ALERT

Up to 1,700 hidden outbreak victims, say UK scientists

THIS dramatic night-time river rescue proves it was never going to be plain sailing when EastEnders took to the water.

Mick and Linda Carter, played by Danny Dyer and

Kellie Bright, throw a posh riverboat party after the Queen Vic wins Best Pub. But tensions soon escalate, with disastrous consequences.

Mick and Linda are seen in the water with a police boat as Keanu Taylor (Danny Walters) is dragged from the Thames.

Stunt doubles were used in the scenes for the explosive 35th anniversary episode next month.

AS many as 1,700 people are likely to have fallen victim to a mystery Chinese virus, UK scientists warn – exploding claims of just 50 so far.

But British airports have ruled out screening passengers for the potentially deadly Corona outbreak.

This week the US vowed to introduce safeguards at three major terminals.

Disease tracking specialist Prof Neil Ferguson admitted: “I’m substantially more concerned than I was a week ago.”

Nearly 50 cases of the viral pneumonia outbreak have been officially identified in the central Chinese city of Wuhan. Two have died.

Two cases have turned up in Thailand and one in Japan – fuelling fears it could spread when hundreds of millions travel for this week’s Chinese New Year. Prof Ferguson said: “To have exported three cases would imply many more than reported.” The virus is related to Sars, which began in China 17 years ago, killing nearly 800 globally.
