Brainy Dave of Eggheads dies aged 49
EGGHEADS star Dave Rainford has died aged 49 after going absent from the show last year due to an unconfirmed illness.
Nicknamed “Tremendous Knowledge Dave”, his general knowledge was so good he was once banned from every pub quiz in his home city of Manchester.
He rose to fame in 2005 when he won £250,000 on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? and replaced CJ de Mooi in 2012 as one of nine Eggheads in every episode of the show.
Fans were puzzled by his absence last year, but he said he was missing from the latest recordings as he was “still recuperating”.
Jeremy Vine said Dave was “always fun and sociable”. The Chase quizzer Paul Sinha told of a “great bloke, great friend”.
